People across Canada and the US are rising up against the corporatism that is keeping us oil dependent and locked in to a centralized corrupt energy grid. Forward thinking governments, such as Germany, are showing that we can create more decentralized energy infrastructures based on solar power. So there are alternatives that our resources and tax money can help develop, rather than being wasted lining the pockets of the dying dinosaur industrial complex and their political cronies. Which is always at the expense of the environment and indigenous populations (especially).
This Saturday is an example of the waking up of people around these issues. Specifically we are gathering outside Chevron’s refinery in Burnaby to protest the Pacific Trail Pipeline which would transport dirty fracking gas for foreign export. This is proving to be a creative and fun protest using circus performers and music as well as well-informed speakers and symbolic direct actions. These kind of protests are required when the democratic system is failing and there are still so many people apathetic and complacent. Fear not, tide is shifting.
