Here I am with Karl Hergt from Tempo Trend music shop in Victoria, BC. There really were over 800 accordions in his shop, many of them quite wonderful and some very rare ones. People from all over come to his shop. You can see he is a sweet guy just from the photo, I had so much fun trying out this and that one, sipping on apple cider, and hearing about the origins of the accordion. Apparently, the accordion has its roots in China as an early reed instrument! The resonance I have for these instruments now seems to make some sense. This Hohner is from Germany around 1970 and is really delightful, a 48 bass that is very light and compact. I composed and performed a few songs on the accordion for the production of ‘Siddhartha’ this past summer and am now writing several more tunes this time with a gypsy dub feel. Also been composing soul and dub songs on the ukelele for the next album.
