TREATY 8 JUSTICE FOR THE PEACE TOUR

The battle for the Peace River Valley is heating up. On September 5th, the Treaty 8 First Nations Caravan will be heading to Montreal for a court date on September 12th addressing the infringement of FN rights by the proposed Site-C Dam. Donate online at bit.ly/Treaty8Caravan to help them travel the 4,432km and make sure the voices of the Peace River Valley are heard.

"The cross-country caravan will stop in communities along the way, sharing stories, connecting struggles, and building support for the just resolution of the West Moberly and Prophet River First Nations’ case against the Site-C dam. These two communities have been fighting this project for nearly five decades."

I travelled to the Peace River for the Paddle for the Peace in early-July and saw the beauty of this place first-hand. As well as the destruction that would happen to this remarkable ecosysytem that is steeped in FN history and is also the home of incredibly fertile farmland. Behind me in this shot is the illegally created construction site for the dam. BC Hydro is using intimidation to stop people from blockading and bringing to light their activities by getting injunctions and using SLAPP lawsuits.

But the resistance is growing and that's why it is important to be a true ally to our FN brothers and sisters protecting this land and river. This $9bn project is not about efficient energy production, it will only lead to irreversible damage to this ecosystem as well as break promises that Justin Trudeau made to First Nation communities. Amnesty International has said so itself. This past Sunday, the Poets for the Peace event raised almost $2k, big ups to Valeen,Jb the FirstLadyYvonne, and all other organizers and performers.

'World Waking Up' (Live at Vetiver Farms Hawaii)

In February, at the end of our Big Island tour, we shot a video with Dominik Walczuk (a.k.a. Grototote)  at Jason Fox's beautiful Vetiver Farm.

This song is about waking up to one's personal place in a world that is waking up to greater compassion for each other and stewardship of the earth. It felt fitting to film it at this wonderful spot just outside of Hilo.

During our tour we stayed there several times and got to see first hand the process of growing this soil-remediation and stabilizing grass, and turning it into useful products and incredibly fragrant oils. (http://vetiverfarmshawaii.com/)

This song is on 'Malama Ka 'Aina' and is available on buckmancoe.bandcamp.com and iTunes.com/buckmancoe as well as Spotify and other streaming services.

Our world wakes up as we all become more aware of our interconnection and responsibility to each other as well as to our own paths and to the Earth as a whole.

Big Island Band :

Mary Ancheta - keys

Noa Eads - drums

Joshua Timmons - trumpet

Payton Meyer - saxaphone

Pat Eskildsen - bass

Bub Pratt - guitar

So much gratitude to this sweet family!!! Sean heard me playing when I was getting started 6yrs ago in Vancouver when he was visiting. He saw we were touring Australia and invited us to stay with him and his family, Shelley & little Acacia. They put on a stellar show for us in Wingham this past Thursday, which turned into a fabulous night of dancing and community.

❤️ Thank you all so much ❤️

Bigger Than You & Me // Fox Theatre, Vancouver

The powerful thing about music is that it speaks to the heart, and musicians often can't help but act from the heart and lend their voice to causes that concern us all. On March 2nd, members of the Vancouver music community gather to raise funds and awareness for refugees coming into Canada. We are all so lucky to be here in this country and it is crucial that we pay-it-forward!

My full-band alongside David Morin, Erica Dee, and DNA6 will be playing for the Inland Refugee Society on March 2nd at the Fox Theatre. It's a stellar line-up uniting for a great non-profit that helps newly landed refugees access services and meet their basic needs as they come from war-torn and politically volatile regions. Come help us celebrate life and support our brothers & sisters.

'Courage' (Official Music Video) Premieres on Reggaeville

The second official music video from the new album 'Malama Ka 'Aina' makes its premiere on the popular online magazine Reggaeville. The video features my friend and musician/artist/activist Corrina Keeling as she goes about her day leaving little love bombs in her beautiful script around Vancouver. I chose to present her in this video because she's an incredible soul - a very talented artist and musician, and committed activist for the environment & social justice. She also did the script on the album.

WATCH THE VIDEO on REGGAEVILLE.COM and ON MY VIDEOS

Filmed/Edited by Josli Rockafella Song Produced by Adham Shaikh
