This past Monday was the second time I opened for Ziggy, but this time I overcame shyness and spoke to him after his soundcheck! We spoke about the venue and he was interested in the show I saw there with Prince a few years back joking that he wouldn't dare crowdsurf like he did.
My band consisted of Mary Ancheta (keys), Michael Rush (upright bass), and Jon Roper (lead guitar). This more stripped down 'acoustic' set up made the full-house of 1200+ people feel intimate. People being attracted to the universal themes of peace and love associated with Ziggy Marley, were appreciative of my music and talk about indigenous and environmental justice.
This was definitely one of the best performances and venues in my career to date. And I am grateful to the Vancouver International Jazz Festival for giving me the honour of opening up for the eldest son of the great Bob Marley.
